Coco Fennell is not afraid of a little flair. In fact, she’s uniquely embraced it, and made a name for herself through doing so. Coco’s spirited dresswear brand has garnered a loyal band of followers over the years, appearing on the likes of Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, and Rita Ora. Most recently, the retro Americana designs came back into the spotlight after appearing in her sister’s Oscar-winning film Promising Young Woman.

So what happens when Coco’s exuberance isn’t confined to a few yards of fabric? See: Her London town home. After the previous apartment had been packed to the brim with knickknacks and collectibles, the designer decided she needed a bit more space. So, she moved to a Shoreditch house with a garden and—most importantly—a storage basement.

The charming interior showcases the wide array of treasures collected over the years, from American diner trinkets to antique theater props. When it comes to a design philosophy, it’s the more the merrier for Coco. “I love stuff,” she says, smiling amidst a cluster of mismatched frames behind her Zoom screen. She calls out one in particular, a vintage love meter from the fairground games turned theater prop for a play. “It doesn’t really fit here, but I know there will be somewhere for it one day,” she adds.

Upon getting a better sense of the home, it becomes clear that there’s a method to the madness. Amidst the countless eclectic furnishings emerge a few patterns: Red and white stripes find their way into the living room sofa, carpet, and tented canopy draping above the dining area. A series of miniature hot air balloons hanging along the kitchen are featured again in wallpaper form, cladding one of the upstairs sleeping areas.

Although her primary job is to design for others, when it comes to homes, Coco describes her taste as a tad too exuberant for the usual clientele. Of course, this is with the exception of her sister Emerald, who remains her only confidant with a comparable appreciation for even the most outlandish of collectibles. “She has a very similar taste to me, so we kind of send each other screengrabs of things that we’re watching on eBay,” Coco says. “It would just be some of the most insane stuff. Like a mortician’s banner or some sort of a magician’s table cloth.”

Whether it’s clothing or interiors, one thing is crystal clear⁠—for Coco, designing is first and foremost an opportunity for self expression. Just like her captivating smile, boldly printed dress, and cobalt blue hair, her London town house is unapologetically fun. “I want to make things that make you feel good, but also bring joy,” Coco says. “I want my house to be a place where people can come and just have a big chat, do karaoke dinner, or whatever we please. I want it to be a very welcoming, fun space.”
